JOB DESCRIPTION 

WAP Sustainability is inviting you to be a part of our diverse team of changemakers as a Sustainability Analyst working for our Material Health division. This role will require strong technical skills and a passion for improving the environment by addressing the human health impacts of leading products and companies.  

The ideal candidate must be comfortable in a fast-paced business setting focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and change and have a desire to learn, grow, and maintain expertise as the industry progresses. They will also have documented experience in chemical management policy development and/or materials ingredient disclosures, materials-based certifications, and a working knowledge of toxicological assessment methodologies focused on hazard, exposure, and risk. 

In a fully remote setting, being independently driven and a self-starter is essential. We value proactive team players who take initiative and collaborate effectively. 


AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY  

  • Technical and project work: 
  • Support on full scope of chemical management projects for clients, including data collection, ingredient screening assessments, chemical transparency document creation, and product certification. 
  • Collaborate with team members cross-functionally to support and leverage other services, such as LCA, carbon accounting, and ESG-managed services. 
  • Incorporate relevant procedures, processes, and protocols to support efficient workflow.  

 

  • Supplier outreach:  
  • Support supply chain data collection process and ensure data completeness and quality. 
  • Review and translate supplier-provided information into value chain data systems. 

 

  • Client support:  
  • Assist team members on all areas of client engagement from project scoping and initiation, through data collection, screening, document creation and reporting.  

 

  • Use of software and databases: 
  • Create, manage, and update individual product records in 3E Exchange (formerly Toxnot). 
  • Material/product database management for clients (including Mindful Materials, Ecomedes, HPD Public Repository, ILFI Declare, NSF Product Listing, SCS - Green Products Guide, UL SPOT®). 


DESIRED SKILL SET 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for simplifying complex ideas. 
  • Ability to craft compelling stories and visuals that capture attention and drive engagement. 
  • Strong team player with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders. 
  • Support clients in understanding hazards and potential health risks from chemicals and ingredients in products. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • A degree in material science, toxicology, chemistry, engineering, or environmental science (an advanced degree with a relevant specialization is a plus).  
  • Experience in manufacturing, material transparency, green chemistry, product circularity, chemical management, and/or chemical regulatory compliance.    
  • Experience with (or working knowledge of) one or more of these certification programs: Cradle-to-Cradle Certified®, GreenScreen Certified®, US EPA Safer Choice, LEED Certification, NSF 140, NSF 332, BIFMA LEVEL®, Green Squared® Certified. 
  • Consulting experience preferred. 


COMPENSATION, BENEFITS and PERKS


Compensation:

BASE PAY: Although this is a 100% remote position and candidates from all over the USA are invited to apply, our compensation package is based on the Tennessee market.

VARIABLE PAY: WAP offers a variable bonus of up to 20% of your annual salary (based on performance).
